Eating out in Barcelona

There are some excellent restaurants in Barcelona. Being on the coast, the city is renowned for it's seafood. The best seafood restaurant, and the best meal I had by far in Barcelona was at Casa Jose in Poble Sec. You definitely have to make a reservation. The octopus is unbelievable. It's hidden away, but here's the address.

I would avoid like the plague any restaurant on the La Rambla or any restaurant that has pictures of the food displayed outside.

There's an Australian mafia in Barcelona, with a number owning and running restaurants. If you have a craving for Vegemite toast or a big cup of coffee with real milk instead of a tiny black cup of coffee go to Federal at Carrier del Parliament, El Ravel (pictured above).

Also in Spain they have this drink called Horchata, which I'm now addicted to, and it's a problem, because I don't know if we have it in Australia. It's hard to describe the taste, because here it is made out of nuts, but it's sort of like a milkshake. Well, not quite, but it's great. Anyway near Federal there is this great Horchateria (pictured above)

The good thing about travel is that you get to experience food that you don't have in your own country, and see how other people do the basic things in life, like eat. I like how they have dinner later in the evening in Spain. I like Tapas. It's a great idea; having tasty snacks with a drink before lunch or after work. By far the best Tapas is at Quimet and Quimet in Poble Sec.
