Australia Road Trip. Day 6: Adelaide

Today we visited the historic Adelaide Gaol, which is reputed to be haunted. I assembled my Paranormal Investigation Team (Louise) and we went to investigate.

Adelaide Gaol opened in 1841. About 45 people were hanged in or outside the Gaol, and the last person was hanged in 1964. Their ghosts are said to stalk this prison.

“No Ghosts in here” said Louise, checking out a cell (we’re very scientific)

This is the Hanging Tower, as the name implies, people were hanged here.

This is where they got hanged (above).

Aha! On the wall are photographs reported to be actual ghosts that stalk the prison.

There is a night time ‘Ghost” tour, where the visitors are equipped only with torches, which would be more fun, but one of my team members, not saying who, wouldn’t be in on it. So, I can’t prove there are no ghosts, but I would say that at one stage I did feel something crawl up my leg. It turned out to be an ant.

Stuck in traffic (Adelaide for such a small place has the worst traffic), Louise noticed this 2 metre tall Umbrella (pictured above), and just had to have it, despite the practicalities that it could hardly fit in the car. We went to Australia Post, but it was too long for them, so we had to drive to the airport, and have it couriered back to Sydney, which cost more than the actual umbrella.

Tomorrow, we are facing the long drive to Coober Pedy, where we will be staying underground, in the appropriately titled, Underground Motel.
