About On Travel

Hi, I'm Steve and welcome to On Travel, a blog designed to inspire everyone to travel, and live passionately.

Well, that's the corporate line, but this blog really is about sharing my real life travel experiences, photographs, videos, and laughing at my hapless attempts to travel around the world, and hopefully learning from all my mistakes, whilst all the time marveling at my ability to escape from the worst consequences of my stupidity.I share my independent travel advice, for what that's worth (because there is no training or qualification to be a travel blogger), including what to eat and where you can find good restaurants, although I wouldn't call myself a 'Foodie' by any stretch.

Plus, I'll post all that other important detail like opening hours, how to get there, maps, and links to the websites you will need, that anybody can get from Wikipedia.

How to use this blog:

Simply follow the blog as I continue my travels around the world. or you can use the search engine above to find some of
the places I have visited.

At the bottom of each blog post I normally post the travel info that you will need like maps, prices, and other such detail about the places that I have visited. You can also follow the links to other websites with a click of a button to obtain more information that you may need, which may be quite frequent.

Please feel free to comment as I love to hear your feedback
and travel experiences or advice (if it's nice).

Places visited so far:

United States - LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Memphis (I've been to Graceland), New York, Florida, & Hawaii

Europe:
United Kingdom - England & Wales.
Ireland - Dublin, Cork, Blarney Castle

France - Paris

Spain - Barcelona, Grenada, Seville, Cordoba

Italy - Rome, Florence, Venice, Portofino, Pisa

Monaco - Monte Carlo

Austria (by train), Czech Republic - Prague/Bohemia
Germany - Dresden.

Netherlands - Amsterdam

Belgium - Ghent, Bruges

Asia & Oceania:

Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Fiji, New Zealand, and being Australian, of course Bali (Indonesia). Outback Australia & various other parts of the Great Southern Land.

Why travel:

However, travel is not about how many countries you have visited, but having fun, meeting new people, trying new things, approaching everything with an open mind. It kind of makes you a more interesting person too.

Independent travel (without a travel agent or tour group) is
fun, and easy, and if somehow I can travel around the world, then so can you.

TRAVEL TIPS

  • Be a Minimalist - less is more, bring/own less stuff, bring items that can perform more than one function. Eg. gym shorts/swimmers, poncho/tarp, Think creatively. The minimium of stuff to accomplish your goals. Life lesson too.
  • Be respectful of the culture, customs of each place & try to learn about their history, but most importantly, be polite.
  • Don't look like a tourist - try to blend in, which means dressing up in Europe
  • Eat where the locals eat
  • Save money by buying food at the supermarket & carry snacks with you. Don't forget a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
  • Research with Tripadvisor.com
  • Book and save with Wotif.com
  • Stay Safe - in other words; “Don’t go stupid places, with stupid people, and do stupid shit.”
